MRAP mechanics
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
1. Performs the full range of overhaul and repair work on chassis group units of one or more types of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. Types include those in commercial, industrial, or tactical use such as passenger cars, trucks, forklift trucks and warehouse tractors, multi-wheel drive vehicles with automatic transmissions and auxiliary equipment.
2. Determines exact nature and extent of repairs required and performs major and minor overhaul and repair on engines, power transmissions, suspension, steering and braking operational systems and related electrical, fuel, hydraulic, wheel and engine assemblies.
3. Make operational checks and adjustments as required.
4. Able to use specialized testing equipment such as compression testers, motor analyzers and test benches.
5. Directs work of junior and helper mechanics as required. Reviews work in progress and upon completion for conformance to standards.
6. Proficient in proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
Computers and Microsoft Office Suite of programs. Commercial and tactical automotive tools (automated and hand), TMDE and material handling equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is generally conducted in a shop environment; however, duties may involve the conduct of work in the out-of-doors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Work will require lifting up to 50 LBs, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical or biological agents. Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published company work rules.
Required Experience:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Experience:
Minimum of five years continuous experience performing maintenance, services and overhaul of Combat, Tactical, Engineer, Power Generation and Ancillary Support Equipment at the Mechanic or Inspector Level
Skills:
Excellent computer, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required. Computer skills include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
